One morning last week Matt had an early meeting with a client at 7am. We have been having trouble with the garage door opener on the wall - it doesn't like to open on the first, second, fifth or twentieth times... so Matt thought he would just open it using the opener in the car.
He gets in the car and goes through his normal routine - start the car, put on seat belt, turn on radio, put the car in reverse and head to work. Next thing he knows he feels a little tap - he hits the garage door. Luckily he wasn't going fast - so there should be no damage. He pulls the car up and gets out to assess the damage.
Next thing he knows the car starts reversing into the garage door - without him IN the car! So he jumps in and slams on the brakes. So he pulls up again and this time he makes sure the car is in PARK not REVERSE and turns it off before he gets out to now see the large dent in the door where you can see the street light through.
So now he has to come tell me....
I am getting ready for work thinking he has already left and I see Matt poke his head in. Matt says "Hey Babe - I just creamed the garage door...." So we go out to the garage to check out the damage.
We get out to the garage and start assessing the damage to the door - it is buckled a good three feet out. So we decide that we need to pull it up enough to at least get the car out of the garage. We start pulling up the door - we are able to get the door up a third of the way when it gets jammed at the top. I go around to the outside so I can push the door in while he pushes up.
We finally get the door almost all they way flat on the top - when it crashes down onto the Jeep!
At that time I tell him to take the Infiniti and go to his meeting and I will call a garage door guy once they open at 7am.
So he heads out and leaves me with this.....
Luckily - I was able to work from home and a nice little garage door man came out by noon to put a brand new door on for us and remove the old one off the Jeep!
As for the Jeep - it came away with a very minor scrape on the top roof rack - otherwise you would never know it reversed itself almost through our garage door and then have the garage door collapses onto it!
The ironic thing about the whole ordeal is that

the stupid opener on the wall works now the FIRST time EVERY time! Go figure!!
