We were in Guatemala for 6 nights, the first and final night we stayed in Guatemala City. The other four nights we called home at a "Resort" in Tecpan. Below is our cabin we shared with four others...
From Tecpan we visited a different village each day. The villages were expecting us, it was amazing to pull up and see hundreds of kids waiting for us to pull up.
After arriving in the village we unloaded our supplies and began to set up. Shoes were placed in order by size.
Water stations were set up: Buckets, Scrub Brush, Soap, Powder, Candy and Bracelets were set at each station.
Each station had a member from our team, translator and then a child. As the children came in we would talk with them and begin washing their feet. After drying their feet we put on a brand new pair of socks and shoes for each child.
Then we asked them if we can give them another present - a bracelet. We explain that the bracelet tells a special story of Jesus. We go through the Salvation bracelet with each child.
BLACK BEAD - Represents sin, everyone has sin in their lives
RED BEAD - Represents the blood of Christ, Jesus died for our sins
WHITE BEAD - Represents forgiveness, since Jesus died for us we are forgiven of our sins
BLUE BEAD - Represents Baptism
GREEN BEAD - Represents growth in our Faith
GOLD BEAD - Represents Heaven
We explained to the kids that if they accept Jesus in their heart and grow with Jesus then they will go to Heaven. Then one day they will see us again in Heaven - their eyes would light up! We would ask them if they would like to accept Jesus in their heart and pray with them.
Such a special time to pray the prayer with these kids! During the day we would get a chance to play with the kids.
